a well i've seen you before if you don't remember my name is sam
b and i'm dennis i mean i'm uh i forgot my name
a we can call you tom or
b already
a jack
b no jack jack
b just call me jack okay so
a i'm sam
b okay sam
a good to see you again
b good to see you
a so i guess we have some other people here
a who are interested in what we're both interested in but since we sort of know each other from these sorta things
a i think as in the past which we've done before we can buy the locker together for for both of our small businesses
b sure we'll bid together and then see what happens
a then try to divide it up amongst ourselves instead of our competition get 'em since we've done this before together
b of course let's let's work
a and see how we can divide it up that it mutually
b yeah well first of all let's let's work together on this and figure out
a benefits both of us yeah
b where we stand and um
b obviously there are items in here that uh you're interested in there's items that i'm interested in
b and um well let's talk about um
b obviously if we win this bid where we gonna go
a great let's see how we can divide it up amongst ourselves so we can see if it's worth going
b mhm okay
a forward too so at the end we can say you get a b and c and i get
a a b and c
b okay
a so
a what are your feelings about for example i see it right in the middle of us this painting
a what do you feel about it
b eh you know
b it is art deco and it it is one of a kind
b um you know it
b it's part of the deal of coming in buying a storage unit you never you never know what you're gonna get
b so um
b ideally you know that's just part of it
b um honestly i i don't
b have an interest in that particular item but you know
b we like i said if we win the bid that's part of our
b that's part of our deal you know uh um
a i think it's nice
b so how do you feel about it
a uh
a eh you know i might have some people that might be interested in it
a so
b okay
b so
b you know uh let's talk about the other items
a okay what do you feel let's go on about the lamps
b good
b well the lamps are nice you know they're they're
a we
a we see the one over here so we're looking at the same thing that two sided one and they
b mhm single side yeah single
a yeah they both look nice they both look uh
a just looking at them antique nice probably i would assume about equivalent value
b yeah yeah yeah if you break down the lamps they're probably equivalent value and they're both in great shape and uh
a for the lamps right if we broke them up as an item
b obviously we could make a little profit on those
b and um you know if you you i don't know if you have
a i always have people looking for lamps uh in my store
b yeah yeah
b and i also too um so you know um
b that's uh let's put that up for discussion
b and we let's move on to the third items
b uh which is these three crates of records
b um they're pretty old um
b i'm sure you know just based on the fact that um
b um mm mm you know
b based on the fact that everything's these days is so modern it's all cds and things like that um there is a a a place for these and there are customers that can
b that are looking for these type of items
b um
b i mean do do you have an interest in any one of these three say this is one category
b the the art deco painting is other and the records are another do you you feel a strong
b you know attraction to any of these three categories
a i'd say probably just because of the number of units involved if they're a good shape
a i don't know if we can go through each and every one to look at the quality of the vinyl albums
b mhm
a which is something boy it'd be nice to
a you see a beatles album there we don't know how
a like some of the vinyl that i have people brought them back to me and i have a
a uh especially on the vinyl a return policy if they're not playable i would check it on my own turntable to see if they worked
b mhm
a and obviously since we don't have a turntable here it's
a they are it is a risky
a uh investment looking at it we don't even know if they're gonna play correctly
a and usually people will pay good amount of money for those
a but
b of course
a they still want it to work and if you have
a a good customer
a that comes by and buy these but if he buys it
a you're gonna have to give him show him that it works either in your store or give him some sort of twenty four hour return policy
a so it is a little bit of a risk there also
b mhm
a and obviously see we see on the two of the crates
a the beatles which is gonna be of a lot more value
a obviously
b mhm
a to us than the full crate on the end
a with the minutemen who i don't even know who are really remember who they are
a i've heard the name
b i have no i have no i have no clue
a but i don't think in pop culture whereas you know
a we see the yellow submarine album
b mhm
a and it looks to me i think that's the hard day's night album if i remember right from
a i'm giving away my age a little bit
b mhm
a and uh
a are those something you think you can sell at your store
b yeah i'm leaning towards the uh at this point i'm leaning towards the lamps
b um the
b the records you know
b i do have buyers potential buyers for things like that
b um but like you said because of the number of items in there
b we
b it's hard to determine what the value is
b you you know in other words
a right so it's the risky to me it seems very risky
b it it's the risk
a and because we don't know of the quality of it we don't have a turntable
a it's like for example looking at the a copy of the gutenberg bible
a an original and seeing it but all the pages are torn out of it
a or if it doesn't play properly
b of course of course
a or if we're looking behind the uh minutemen on the end
a it can be a bunch of
a captain kangaroo albums on the inside intead of popular rock and roll items
a we don't know what's in there
b yeah
a and we don't know of the quality of it
a so there was a i would say even though i think
a i have regular customers who like the album
a i'm a little hesitant because of the risk
a involved a because of the quality
b of course
a and we see that b it's
a it's looking at a great for example to me lobster dinner
a but if you have the lobster find out it's old and it's tough and it's or looking at a steak dinner and find out boy it's
a it's just tough it looks very appetizing from the outside
a but i'm a little uh
b but
a i'm a little
a scary i like you to think i look at the lamps and i go
a hmm
a that's something i know we could
a we could sell that's a little safer
b yeah so in other words you're you're on the same mindset as me as far as um
a yeah
b at least with the lamps you you see what you see what you see in front of you is what you're gonna get
b and that's what the customer's going to see
a and as the painting
b that's gonna xxx
b exactly the same with the painting but the uncertain factor would be those records
b um however you know it
b it can be very lucrative but like you said it can be a high risk item
b um
b the higher the risk obviously the higher the return
a right
b uh the reward return on it so um it's just a
b coin flip or a it's like being it's like gambling like anything else you and i know that
b this type of situation especially when we're going through an auction like this
b um it sometimes you overpay
b for a unit sometimes you underpay for a unit
b and um
b you're gonna have to keep that in mind as far as
b what is the value that we're gonna have to put on all these items
b that it's gonna make us worth our while to bid for this unit
a right right
b you know so um
a do you have any interest in any of the albums
b um i would
b i would i would consider the albums but like i said right now
b um i'm kinda leaning towards the the lamps
b i mean i i don't know how you feel about this but
a i like the lamps as well but i have a pretty good backlog on lamps in my store
a whereas i would also
b mhm
a give a high priority towards the lamps
a that
b mhm
a i'd be willing to take a little more risk on some of the albums
b mhm
a whereas 'cause we have a good backlog on the lamps at our store
a as well is the same with the painting i have all my wall space in my thirty thousand foot
a warehouse is pretty full but
b mhm
a the painting seems good
a but the albums seems like a risky thing
a but it also seems like i have such an over supply on lamps even though i think the lamps is a nice safe bet if we can at least get our
a our uh
a our money back on that because it seems we see the beatles on the top we don't know what's on the inside of those crates
b mhm
a and we don't know the conditions of those albums which really scares me
a so but anyway
a you want the you feel these are your
a you you wanna go home with those both
b well you know if we if we look at it this way
b um
b i'm looking at okay you've been in business as long as i have
b you're you're looking at a situation where
b um uh you're aware that art deco can be of value
b and these three would be considered art deco
b okay including the painting um
b i'm looking at the lamps as something that's potentially
b something that's viable however uh the painting
b you know mhm
b that's an a risk
a the painting is hard unless we have it it looks nice
a it could be a mona lisa
b yeah
a or it could be a paint by numbers looking at it from this distance given that
b mhm yeah you can't tell
a we've worked in the art business but unless we have our appraisal
b in other words it could be a just a print
b a copy a print
a it could be a print or it could be an original
b it could be an original so that is also an unknown factor
a right
b you know
a right
b uh so it's a matter of deciding at this point
b um if we can
a is that something is that a positive thing for you or is that a negative is that something you like
b well potentially it's something that
a i like the idea i like the albums i'd like to go home with a
a good supply of the albums i have room for it 'cause my warehouse is full
a however i'm still apprehensive about some of the risk
b of course
a do you see i know we
a i think these are probably the most valuable i know where we'll both be getting money from those even though i have a good supply on the lamps i know i'll get my we'll get or money back both of us
b well it
b mhm the art deco obviously you follow this category art deco and you have the the albums here the vinyls
b the art
a they all sorta go together in a way if you really think about it
b yeah yeah
b the art deco the painting is the question mark
b uh as far as
b as you stated with the vinyls there's a risk involved but
b with this particular item the painting
a it looks in good condition good shape
b it's in very good condition however you know there is a risk involved because you don't know what you're getting 'cause we can't see it
b we can't put our hand on it at this point
a right we're just looking at it now
b you know
b you know we're we're we win we win this storage unit we open the door
b and as soon as we put out hand on it all of a sudden we realize
b out out in the garbage or we're gonna jump up and down and say
a right it looks it looks good looking at it just the same with the lamps the lamps look good but unless we're gonna look at it quick
b yeah yeah
a but they look good but people always want lamps that's why i always i always stock lamps and i actually part of my business
b yeah yeah
a geez a probably about a third of my business is lamps 'cause people would always want these art deco lamps because they
a they look great
b of course
a they last forever
a and it's really easy something easy for them to take home
a the thing is with the vinyl when i have people come into my stores people just open 'em up and look at them with a fine tooth comb
b of course
a in fact i even keep a turntable in my store
a for these albums so people i can let them listen to 'em
a because i prefer if i don't know who the customer is
a we don't you know given it's used merchandise we really don't have a return policy but for a regular customer if they bring it back in twenty four hours
a i would say great i don't wanna have unhappy customers because i'm so happy with my return business
a you know and i'm really scared of this minutemen i don't know what's behind here at least i see on these couple i see a beatles on the outside
a where at least the
a even if it's all junk on the inside at least some of them i like the cover
a so
b okay
b okay um
b at this point where are you leaning
a uh i'm leaving and taking a majority of the albums but on the other hand
a if you have any interest in the albums
a you know i would take a lamp
b so you're you're open to mixing
a yeah absolutely
b in other words we have say for instance
b we have one lamp one lamp
b a painting and then we have three boxes of albums
b and then um so it you would agree at this point
b to mix the category in a sense
a right
b mhm
a we have about another before we do this auction we have about another minute
b yeah well we'll
a so let's try to divide think of something real quick uh
b okay okay we need yeah we're coming down to the wire here um
b because i'm looking at um i'm looking at um
b a good mix in other words something to help reduce
b some of the risk involved so
b i would go for one album
b and two of the art deco items two outta the three art deco items
b and how do you feel about that
a i think that's fair i would just for if you were gonna get those i would just prefer to get the ones with the beatles on the outside
a and
b okay
a to give you you want
a if i was for example to get two of the albums
a and to give you this over here
a and i'll take this i don't know what since we don't have a lot of value on this guy here
a to leave at something like this it looks to me about equivalent value
b okay
a i'd be more likely to take the lamps if i say i didn't have an oversupply on 'em
a right now i would want the lamps
b okay
a but i'm willing to risk it
a and we're gonna bid in about thirty seconds and this to me seems about fair because at least i know i'm risking this on here but at least some of my i might be able to put a frame on the beatles cover so xxx
b of course of course
b alright um you know what at this point we're running out of time here we're gonna have to make a decision
b um i'm good with
b taking the lamps and the albums that i'm not sure what they are you're you're good with the two albums
b two two boxes of albums with the beatles in the front
a i am given what they're gonna bid in about seven seconds
b okay
b all right it sounds like we got a deal
a we do
b okay
a good luck let's let's hope we win this
b thank you
b you know i didn't know there was
b a hundred dollars additional lottery
a i don't they might have a hundred guys coming in here
a mhm
b yeah that's true though that's true
a
b yeah
a no
b no black eyes
b okay no fighting no no pulling no pulling hair
a were you watch were you watching us
a oh you watch us later
b yeah
a do you want us leave this on are we still being recorded
b oh okay
