a okay where to begin
b well i i think they didn't tell us the other person's name so i'm alex dobson
a okay i'm sam sheets
b hey sam
a okay
b we've seen each other before but never really
a right
b so that's fun
b so we've been going to these auctions we know how this works
b we know what the price will be if we go in solo
b and the benefits of going in together is
a mhm
b half the price
a mhm
b and we divvy up the stuff
b so that would mean it would make a lot of sense if
b your business and my business had different specialties right
a mhm
b i was specialized in one kind of thing and you were specialized in another
a uh huh
b that would be most profitable
b right so they've given us some idea
a right
b what these things are worth right
a and um
a and and i'm assuming that the that what they're worth is the same value to you but i don't think that that's necessarily true
a you know i have
b well
a because
a uh uh i have a buyer that's interested in some of the stuff
a and you probably have a buyer that's interested in
a in some of your stuff and they might not necessarily be the same stuff
a okay
b right
a and i'm assuming this is one storage unit this is another storage unit and this is another storage unit
b no my understanding is all of these things are in the one storage unit
a oh in the one okay
b and so
b we would if we bid on it together and won it together
a we can just divvy it up
b then
b we can divvy up
b and we can figure out you know half to you half to me or we can figure out
b this is worth more to me so i'll take some of this and you can actually get more
b so i don't think the all the blocks have the same value
a uh huh
b of
b and i don't know if they have the same value for each of us or not that's
b it's something they didn't tell us and i guess
a right right
b that's what we're gonna
b figure out as we get to the
a right
b the dickering part
b um so
b um i guess
b we gotta jump in and start saying what looks
a what you want
b yeah
a you know what what you want um uh
a it it i i want i want
a this okay
a and so um
a uh i don't know if uh i don't know if i if you would agree that i can have that
b you mean you want one crate of records
a yeah um
a uh i would i i could take all of the all of the records
a um i i could take all of the records
b that would be interesting um from
b my understanding sam
b you typically are interested in art deco
b items like this painting
b by or print of uh tamara the
a de lempika something like that
b de lempika something like that funny name
a yeah
b and
b and these marvelous
b art deco lamps um
b so it's kind of interesting
b that you are interested in the crates of
b records which are not art deco do you have a
b an unusual buyer who's not in your usual field of
a yes
b goods
b interesting well um
a what are you interested in
b my
b my interest is also in the records those are the
b most interesting and um
b so what do we wanna do
a okay um
a let's let's see how how would we
a divide divide up um
a uh there i i there is
a uh i'm i'm thinking there there is a possibility of
a dividing the stuff so that we each get some of
a of um uh of each category
a you know we we we've got three art deco-ish things and we've got three
a three of these and so um
a um
a basically basically we could even flip a coin to see who
a chooses first
b well that's an interesting idea
b we could um
b do you suppose we're allowed to talk about
a i i it didn't say we couldn't
b what things are worth to each of us
b okay
b because my
b recollection of the story we read is that
b if
b either of us bought the whole unit on our own so we didn't reach agreement
b we would end up with
b the profit that equals the profit from one crate of old records
b so that tells me
b that by sharing
b if we each get one box of records we get all this other stuff too
b that has more value so that's the benefit of
b sharing rather than going in solo right
a mhm mhm
b so so i guess one easy
b point would be to get to that first level
b where we each get one box of records
b and then we talk about what to do with the rest of the stuff
a mhm
b what do you think
a okay
b alright you wanna take one
a yeah
b okay
b so i'll take one too
b so now we're left with the other stuff
b and so we've each gotten one of what we most value
a uh huh
b so what do we wanna get
b what do we wanna
b divvy up next and how do we wanna divvy it
a um i
a i would i would say that
a uh i'm not entirely sure on
a on the value of um of either of these types of lamps
a i have a preference a personal preference for one
a um but i'm not sure
b mhm
a um what the what the value would be
a um
b mhm
a and so i'm thinking that
a each each of us could have one of these
b okay
b well that's an that's an interesting thought
b um but let's let's
b take a look at the other two items left on the table
b we've got the the tamara
b print and one more um
b crate of records
b so another possible scenario is we each get one lamp
b and then we each get one of these
b and for me
b i'm not so sure of which lamp i prefer
b so i wonder if
b we could get to the third part of the discussion
b which is which of these we get
a mm right right
b does that make sense
a yeah um
b well i guess let's do it this way
b do you have a preference for which lamp you'd like
a um i like this one
b okay
b um can i
b get the
b second box of records if you get that lamp
a um
b would that be
b or can we bundle it so
b for example it would be bundled i get these
b and you get those what do you think
a um well
a it's uh
a i don't i'm not seeing that that is that's
a i'm just i'm just seeing that you that um
a it's not an even deal
b okay
a you know
b what would make it an even deal
a um hmm
a well um i believe that this has the lowest value
a and
b okay
a well
b so what would be an even deal
a um
b two lamps on one side
b tamara and the other box of records on the other
a
a it's uh it's it's funny i keep wanting to come back to let
a let chance decide
a you know you flip a coin and see who gets you see who gets to make the choice
a because um
b uh huh
a uh because one of us is going to be
a kind of stuck with a lesser deal
b but we're still each gonna be ahead of where we would be
b if we were solo going solo right
a yes
b 'cause we've already
b we've already met that deal and there's still more value left
a yeah
b in the pot
b so well flipping a coin might be an idea
b um
b i guess we don't have enough information to know if this equals that right
a um
b or do we
a in in some sense there's there there is
a enough value i think for the records that um
a uh whoever whichever one of us gets this
a is getting the better deal
b hmm
b interesting
a that's that's kind of what i'm what i'm thinking that there's
b that's that's that's the way you read your
a there's yeah
b instruction set
b hmm yeah i am
b i'm not so clear on that so
b so would that be okay if you got those and i got these
a it
b do you think would that be
a it would be okay for it would be okay for me
a yeah it would be okay for me
b equitable or beneficial to you
a would it be okay for you
b okay
a to have that and and the lamps
b i think so
a okay then i think we've made a made an agreement
b we got a deal alright
a
b so let's call angela
a okay that's it
a yeah
a oh
b did that buzz do you suppose
a i don't
b oh it did
b yeah yeah
a okay
